About Mark
Mark Zouzalik spent forty years in the business world before becoming the primary caretaker for his wife during her fierce four-year battle with cancer—a journey that took them from their home in Lubbock, Texas to MD Anderson in Houston and back. Married since blending their family of six children in 1998, he now has ten grandchildren. Mark stepped away from the corporate world to write their story. He now focuses on grief survival and helping others navigate the landscape of loss. The Lady in the Chair is his first book.
A Change of Plans
Long before I knew I would write a book, Susan and I talked about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. After forty years in business, I knew I no longer wanted to measure those years by staying one step ahead of someone else. I wanted to find a way to do some good.
Susan believed I could. She told me I had the tools to make a difference—I simply had to go out and discover what that might be.
After she died, I began writing to her every day because I didn't want our memories to fade. Those pages eventually helped lead me to The Lady In The Chair. Sharing Susan's story then led to something I hadn't expected: listening as other people began sharing their stories with me.
I don't know exactly where that road leads. Perhaps to more writing, conversations, a podcast, speaking—or something I haven't considered yet. I only know that I no longer want to settle for the familiar simply because it is familiar. Susan taught me too much about the value of life for that.
She inspired the change of plans. Now I intend to see where it leads.
